Zakynthos
I had long wanted to visit one of the most beautiful Greek islands — the island of Zakynthos. I undertook this adventure with a friend. We flew to Zakynthos Town airport and then had to continue to Laganas. Since we love adventures, we decided to travel by hitchhiking. We were lucky — a couple, a man and a woman, stopped and gave us a lift.
Exploring the Island
In Laganas we spent approximately ten nights. This town was our base from which we could explore the surroundings and the island. Although this holiday was more of a party and beach holiday focused on lying on the beach and enjoying life, we also went on several excursions.
Twice we took a boat trip and discovered some of the most beautiful places on the island. The absolute highlight of our trip was Navagio Beach with the famous shipwreck. But many other places were also beautiful.
On the Mountain — Panagia Skopiotisa
On other days we climbed a nearby mountain and enjoyed the wonderful view from there. On this mountain stands the Panagia Skopiotisa — a small Byzantine church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It sits atop Mount Skopos and offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the entire island. We enjoyed this trip very much and I would definitely visit this island again if I had the chance.
