Road Trip Through Morocco 2019
I had been planning this adventure for a long time, as the Merzouga desert had been on my travel list for ages. My friend and I flew to Marrakech in Morocco and rented a car there. Our plan was a road trip through the country.
Ouarzazate and the Road to the Desert
Our first stop was the city of Ouarzazate, where many Hollywood films have been shot. Not far from there is an oasis called the Skoura Oasis. Then we continued on to the Merzouga desert. I felt like I was in a dream — this exact place had been on my wish list for a long time. A real desert with high dunes and camels.
The Merzouga Desert
Our plan was to spend one night in a desert camp at Merzouga. First we went on a camel ride that lasted about two hours. After that we could enjoy the evening. The stars in the desert were incredible. The food prepared for us was delicious, and at the end we danced to Moroccan music.
The next morning we had to return to our car and slowly made our way back towards Marrakech. We truly enjoyed our time in the Merzouga desert.
On the Way Back: Lake and Waterfalls
We then visited Lake Bin el Ouidane and afterwards the impressive Ouzoud waterfalls, where we even saw monkeys.
After this visit we returned to Marrakech, where we still enjoyed the markets. Finally we had to fly back to Central Europe.
